Discover Göttingen by Hire Car

Awaiting you are, among other things, the Gänseliesel fountain, the Bismarck tower on the climbing hill and the Bismarckstein, a seven-metre-high viewing platform made of limestone.
Göttingen University has three beautiful botanical gardens that invite you to explore. Here you should not miss the old and the new Botanical Garden and the Forest Botanical Garden. At the corner of Marktplatz / Kornmarkt you have the “Vierkirchenblick”, this is marked with a bronze plate in the ground.
So to the north lies the Jacobikirche, to the east the Alabani Church, to the south the Michaeliskirche and to the west the Johanniskirche. These four sacred buildings form an ensemble as landmarks of the city, which are always worth a visit.
When visiting the Junkerschänke, a half-timbered house dating back to the 15th century, you should definitely pay attention to the carvings on the front of the building. Here, with great attention to detail and in the finest work, figures from the Old Testament were worked out.
The city was framed in the Middle Ages by eleven watchtowers, of which only the Rieswarte on the Nikolausberg, the Diemardener Warte and the Roringer Warte are preserved today. With a hire car, you can reach Plesse Castle, about seven kilometres away, which unfortunately can only be visited as a ruin today.
At a height of about 350 metres, it towers over the rooftops of Göttingen, which can also be seen from afar.
